They will know that I live because you love one another. They will not know that I live if you do not love one another.

Amazingly, Jesus still wants to use us to build His Church.

Hmm, if Jesus never healed the blind, the lame, preached the captives set free and all the other signs, wonders and compassionate miracles by which he demonstrated the truth of his message that God's Kingdom was at hand - exactly how would we know to believe that the Kingdom has come?

And if the "real mission" of Christians is to preach Christ crucified and nothing else, then it sounds to me more like "words," not "works."

So, how exactly do they read James 2?

"14What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. (NIV)"

Right beliefs absolve the believer from being involved, engaged and from caring for his neighbour. Love God, love people is the message of Christ.
I am sure that the commenter, you and I would not agree on what else might be essential to the Kingdom work that we are undertaking but I try to "preach the gospel at all times" and only when completely necessary do I use words.
