Morningside Baptist Church in Edinburgh is advocating a new approach to Christmas this year. In summary, take your Christmas budget for last year, then halve it. Find ways to enjoy Christmas just as much, but with less excess. the money that is saved will be combined and channelled into a significant programme. Maybe for all of us, times of celebration also need to be times of reflection and adjustment, making sure that our principles and actions are properly aligned? Relationships, even benevolent ones need constant work. I also realize neither of the pantries we support have an over abundance of help which is an area we might be able to tap into, beyond giving of food and cash. These entities need an on going source of food rather than seasonal influx. We give to two pantries as a church and personally. But too often they forget to keep their names in front of us.
